If this isn't variety - you're definitely the greatest denier! Part 3 Ud 03/11/13

I’m back with more brand spanking new material.

To quote Lieutenant George, “Well hello with a bing and a bong and a buzz buzz buzz.”

Blackadder is timeless British comedy at its very best.

No substitutes made so the whistle is blown to get the first half of Extra Time under way.  Will either team have more ambition and try and win this thing?

The commentators can hardly contain themselves.

African Velvet is a song by Air and International Velvet is a Catatonia album.

Days are Forgotten and Days go By are songs by Kasabian and The Offspring respectively.

Magic Hour is a Cast song and album, together with a Scissor Sisters album.  Magic Hours is a piece of music by Explosions in the Sky.

The Sight Below is a Dour band.

Kick-Ass started off the trend of the violent and gory superhero movie.  Others include the stupidly named Super, Griff the Invincible and Defendor.

Ocean Colour Scene believe You are Amazing.

Black Stone Cherry are In my Blood, The Last Shadow Puppets will appear In my Room, The Beatles are In my Life and The Ting Tings are In your Life.

Incubus and Inkubus are both films with spelling issues.

Cherry Ghost got rather friendly with potential weirdos as they found them so attractive, they enjoyed Kissing Strangers.

Revenant and The Revenant are two very types of movie.  The latter is a rather funny take on the zombie and/or comedy.  It’s well worth a watch folks.

Spiral is French crime drama series.  It’s also a 2007 horror film where murder can be a work of art.  Triple Spiral is a song by Bright Eyes.

Some may want to Kill the Director after watching a terrible film.  This is a little extreme but not to The Wombats.

When they’ve had one too many, The Sight Below tend to Stagger into the next drinking pit.

Neon Trees made Mad Love and Tears for Fears described a Mad World.

Happy Soup is a song by Baxter Dury and Love Soup is a BBC comedy with Tamsin Greig and Sheridan Smith.

Smile Like You Mean It, Say It Like You Mean It and Kiss Me Like You Mean It are songs by The Killers, The Pigeon Detectives and The Magnetic Fields.

Some opportunist geezers seized their chance to jump behind a bustling bar and steal some spirits.  The music stopped, every man and woman stood still and most importantly, the thieves froze.  Security took them into the back room for a kicking and the police came.

They were just about to be taken to the nick but then The Killers burst in.

It turned out that they was allowed to keep everything and had a right royal piss up.  However, there was one downside; they were forced to Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf.

Emotions run high as Inspiral Carpets explained This is How It Feels to be lonely, whilst at the bookmakers, The Zutons and Sugarcult noticed a lucky customer win on the nags, so they asked How Does it Feel, We Are the Ocean queried What It Feels Like and while sympathising with an unfortunate, Asia stated I Know How you Feel.

Heathen is both a David Bowie album and a mystery horror film.  Heathen Chemistry signalled that Oasis tumbled into mediocrity.  Hey didn’t they do this after (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?

Oasis split up after Noel and Liam had a blazing row over who had the more impressive eyebrows.

Babybird planted Black Flowers, The Last Shadow Puppets watered a Black Plant and Manic Street Preachers floated to observe Small Black Flowers That Grow in The Sky.

Wanderlust is a 2012 movie and track by Mark Knopfler.  The Wanderlust and Wanderluster are songs by Metric and Band of Skulls respectively.

Mansun claimed We Are the Boys, Suede insisted We Are the Pigs, Chapterhouse demanded We Are the Beautiful and David Bowie believed We Are the Dead.

Madness play the card of We are London.

The Black Keys love Nobody But You.

Naked Lunch is a 1991 film, Naked Video is a comedy show and Naked Sunday is a track by Stone Temple Pilots.

Good Morning to The Dandy Warhols and Hello to Oasis.

Good Morning Spider.  Sparklehorse said that, not me.  Spiders is a Space album.

Ocean Colour Scene greeted Hello Monday, The Zutons said Hello Conscience, Super Furry Animals stated Hello Sunshine, Owl City whispered Hello Seattle and Barenaked Ladies welcomed Hello City.

After bumping into Lostprophets for a second time in one day, I had no choice but to say Hello Again.

The Beatles said Good Day Sunshine and Cerys Matthews woke up with Morning Sunshine.

Dead Ringers can be either a 1988 psychological drama movie or a comedy impressionist’s show.

All the Saints need a very slight Alteration to their musical style.

No matter how much The White Stripes fix their vintage, albeit anicent automobile, it will not Stop Breaking Down.

Life’s a Beach and then you die.  That’s just Django Django being polite.

The Kills are a Superstition of mine.

I attended a very special magic show with a difference.

Instead of regular illusionists, the special guests were My Chemical Romance, Radiohead, The Twilight Sad and Wild Nothing.  Magicians use many objects to baffle and astonish - card tricks, floating, sawing people in half etc but they chose the traditional classic – vanishing.

Their approach was rather novel as each appeared on stage and left nearly as quick as they had arrived.

Before I left, a stranger gave me four sealed envelopes.  Unable to contain my excitement, I hurriedly ripped them open and each paper offered explanations that were emptier than a derelict warehouse.

This Is How I Disappear, How to Disappear Completely, Made to Disappear and Disappear Always were each signed by My Chemical Romance, Radiohead, The Twilight Sad and Wild Nothing respectively.

Cloud Nothings are Not Important.

It's not only The Kinks that thank you for the days.....

Sunday – David Bowie, The Cranberries and Yuck
Monday – The Jam and Wilco
Tuesday – Paul Buchanan
Wednesday – Tori Amos
Thursday – Jim Croce and The Futureheads
Friday – Rebecca Black and The Subways

Interestingly, The Pineapple Thief have got every day covered with a 'subtitle'.

Sunday: Crash
Monday: Sleep
Tuesday: Haboob
Wednesday: The Snail Song
Thursday: Fifty Four
Friday: 5 Minutes
Saturday: Reverse
Sunday: King Street

Yes, they did repeat 'Sunday'.

Let’s pop a few pills.

Annie Lennox and Puressence swallowed a Bitter Pill, The Jam had to digest The Bitterest Pill (I Ever Had to Swallow), You Me at Six are Hard to Swallow and for her album, Alanis Morissette took a Jagged Little Pill.  Pink described me as being Just Like a Pill and Norah Jones took Happy Pills

Six Days is a song by The Battle of Land and Sea and Six Days Seven Nights is a Harrison Ford film.

Some music lovers told Oasis a very harsh truth, “Hey, you just steal your riffs from other artists.”  Liam replied in an arrogant tone, Whatever.

Tribes are not too bothered about time constraints as they meet up Whenever.

I was at the zoo and a chimpanzee was going ape shit.

Morning Parade left me Speechless.

After knocking on the door of Sparklehorse, they invited me to Come on In.

Don’t believe a word that Band of Skulls say as they constantly tell Lies.

For anybody who can perform Cigarette Tricks, give Guided by Voices a call and Two Door Cinema Club smoked Cigarettes in the Theatre.

What are Neon Trees doing at the Weekend?  I neither know nor will ever find out.

Song titles can have a habit of repeating themselves.  Take a shufty at these me hearties.

P2, 8MM, H3 and MR 73 are all films.

Little People is a song by The White Stripes and Little Computer People is a classic 1985 8 bit game.

Morrissey, Young Guns, Muse and My Chemical Romance had an Interlude, The Killers suffered an Enterlude and Them Crooked Vultures had an Interlude with Ludes.

Shakespeare inspired stuff with Romeo and Julie and Romeo and Juliet.  The former is written by The Rifles and the latter is by Dire Straits.  Snow Patrol also covered the Dire Straits effort.  According to Lou Reed, Romeo had Juliette.

Tindersticks only lease Rented Rooms.

Wailing Wall wrote a Song and Blur made a Song 2.

The Summer Set and Tri-State must suffer from narcolepsy and insomnia as the former Can’t Stay Awake and the latter Can't Sleep.

Black Fang is a song by Cherry Ghost and White Fang is a fairly famous wolf.

I am the Mob, I am the D.J., I am the Walrus and I am the Fly are songs by Catatonia, Neon Trees, The Beatles and Wire respectively.

It came as a pleasant surprise when I received Postcards from musical veterans.

They were pretty sparse but they were From a Young Man, From Tiny Islands, From Paraguay and From Catalunya.  I give thanks to the Manic Street Preachers, The Walkmen, Mark Knopfler and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly respectively.

Despite repeated notifications, I received yet Another Postcard from Barenaked Ladies.

I had to realign a Satellite that The Asteroids Galaxy Tour screwed with.  Don't get me started on what Doves did with various Satellites.

Choosing to use the F-bomb can form part of a song title...

The Kills - Fuck the People

Beck - Mutherfucker
Travis - Peace the Fuck Out
Lily Allen - Fuck You
The Smashing Pumpkins - Silverfuck
Future of the Left - Robocop 4: Fuck You Robocop

Fucked Up and Fuck Buttons are both bands.

White Denim will see the Light Light Light, The Velvet Underground will just Run Run Run, Alice Gold may Cry Cry Cry, Ladyhawke is Gone Gone Gone, School of Seven Bells will wave Bye Bye Bye, Of Monsters and Men will give you lots of Love Love Love, Sebastian called after Ross Ross Ross, Yeah Yeah Yeahs refuse No No No, White Denim will Shake Shake Shake, The Rapture lost Frames Frames Frames, Gruff Rhys is a Gyrru Gyrru Gyrru and Teenage Fanclub are Dumb Dumb Dumb.

To make matters better, Dark Dark Dark is a band and Lust Lust Lust is an album by The Raveonettes.

To add a bit of grammar...

Red Hot Chili Peppers and Lykke Li demand Dance, Dance, Dance,  Roxy Music can Cry, Cry, Cry, The Smashing Pumpkins will Try, Try, Try, and Goo Goo Dolls ascend Up, Up, Up.

The Pierces enjoy the Kill! Kill! Kill!

Barenaked Ladies demand that you Sell Sell Sell and incredibly, Sell, Sell, Sell is a track by David Gray.

If You Will Have Me can be associated with a marriage proposal.  Kaiser Chiefs promptly popped the question.

If I woo Train enough, I'm sure they'll Marry Me.

When hosting fancy dress parties, Nirvana weren't too fussy as Kurt just said Come As You Are.  Travis is also laid back as attending As You Are is equally fine.

For no apparent logic, Guided by Voices attached a Chain to the Moon.

To continue this giant rock, The Czars remembered their brushes and liquids to Paint the Moon.

“Not for reasons unknown.  I told you, we set down there on company orders to get this thing, which destroyed my crew (slight pause) and your expensive ship.”

For Reasons Unknown is a song by The Killers.

Songs mentioning family members exist in the musical universe.

Headswim, Admiral Fallow and Fossil Collective - Brother
Blondie, John Lennon and James – Mother
Pearl Jam – Daughter
Mindless Self Indulgence - Uncle
Yellowcard – Father
The National – Son
The Black Keys and Creed – Sister

Vampire Weekend has distant Cousins, Slow Club keep in contact with Two Cousins and Paul Buchanan has Two Children.

It seems that Ocean Colour Scene and Jayhawks were astrologers as they clocked a Big Star, Goo Goo Dolls built a Big Machine, The Kinks and Lou Reed stated the obvious with a Big Sky above our heads, Kate Bush made a Big Exit, The Lumineers marched in a Big Parade and Guillemots stroked a Big Dog.

The Beatles, Primal Scream and Blur all wished for people Come Together.  The Who insisted that we should all Join Together and The 2 Bears suggested a Get Together.

I always look forward to The Morning, as do Eels.  Tindersticks are waiting Until the Morning Comes.

Go Fast, Faster and Fastest are three unrelated films.

A lad’s weekend and a girl’s weekend are common types of ‘weekends’.  The Charlatans turned such a type of ‘weekend’ on its head by having a Chewing Gum Weekend.

I wonder what their preferred brand is.  Wrigleys? Trident?  Whatever, I bet they got into sticky situations.

Super Furry Animals came unstuck when Chewing Chewing Gum.

Go Buddy Go and Go Square Go are songs by The Stranglers and Glasvegas respectively.

Three Monkeys and Twelve Monkeys are both films.

I don’t know why, but Snow Patrol like Making Enemies.  Shinedown have many Enemies.

I refuse to Greet Death, no matter how much Explosions in the Sky beg me to.

Some children have an imaginary friend and The Asteroids Galaxy Tour have been promised a Fantasy Friend Forever.

May I turn your Attention to The Raconteurs?

What for?  Why not?

This is probably more obscure than battles seen in early RPG’s so please take your brain for a walk down Random Avenue for these oddities.

SCUMM is a scripting language developed by LucasArts used for their various types of point and click classic adventure games such as Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island.

Well pack my lunch - SCUMM is also a C64 game.  Well I thought it was crazy....

Pop n’ Bounce is a Neo Geo game which is one of the many Breakout clones to exist.  It features the word ATTACK which if lit up, I suppose gives a perk.

Anyway, this unknown bonus is a song by 30 Seconds to Mars.  Wow.

In football, a Substitute is a tactical manoeuvre which managers exploit to bring on fresh legs, or to run down the clock.  It’s also a tune by The Who.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a song by the Subways and Bang Bang You’re Dead is by Dirty Pretty Things and also a film.

The Bang Bang Club is a 2010 film.

Cloud Nothings are On the Radio and TV on the Radio are a very decent band.

Chairlift make Garbage music and Garbage themselves are Only Happy When it Rains.

Guided by Voices were involved in a Game of Pricks.  It’s unclear if they handled any and what this ‘game’ entailed.

4.48 Psychosis is a song by Tindersticks.  Remove 4.48 and you have a fairly awful horror film.

Great movie villains are a necessity in any action, horror, psychological thriller or drama.

They really can make a film if they are genuinely disturbing or terrifying.  Oddly, they can be funny when they shouldn’t be and you may even start cheering them on to win.

My unlucky for some:

1.  Bruce as the Great White Shark (Jaws)
2.  Kurtwood Smith as Clarence Boddicker (Robocop)
3.  Clancy Brown as The Kurgan/Victor Kruger (Highlander)
4.  Andrew Robinson as the Scorpio Killer (Dirty Harry)
5.  Rutger Hauer as John Ryder (The Hitcher)
6.  Heath Ledger as The Joker (The Dark Knight)
7.  Ron Silver as Eugene Hunt (Blue Steel)
8.  Jack Nicholson as The Joker (Batman)
9.  Gunnar Hansen as Leatherface (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre)
10. Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes (Misery)
11. Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter (The Silence of the Lambs)
12. Beatrice Dalle as La Femme (Inside)
13. Kevin Spacey as Keyser Soze (The Usual Suspects)

I don't really class Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance (The Shining) because he's fantastically a sandwich short of a picnic.  He's the reason why all axes should be hidden away.

DAANNNYYYYYY!

Many might say that Jason Vorhees, Mike Myers, Freddy and Jigsaw are missing but to me, they are just not relevant.

If anything, Freddy gradually turned into a farce.

I really, really wanted to include Darth Vader, The Terminator and Norman Bates...

Are some included that others wouldn’t even have considered?

I suppose it’s similar to been asked, what’s your favourite game, song or film – hence I’ll probably change my mind...

Plan B have a Mama, Cast will Beat Mama and Scissor Sisters wanted you to Take Your Mama.

I am Helpless to the music that Neon Trees create.

Django Django makes music by Default.

Roadkill is a term given to animals that have been struck and killed by a moving vehicle.  I guess Pulp couldn’t avoid this.

The Battle of Land and Sea made The Beautiful Ones, Suede are Beautiful Ones and The Proclaimers knew a Beautiful Truth.

There’s a lot of Confusion in thinking that The Zutons are any good.  Never mind, as to prove the doubters and critics wrong, they are trying Harder and Harder.

Sometimes you just need to Get Away – thanks for the tip Ocean Colour Scene.

When people are annoying Echobelly, they just tell them to Go Away.

Acolyte and Acolytes is a Delphic song and horror film respectively.

Hey, call Band of Skulls as there’s a Bomb to diffuse.

Vangelis wrote a piece of music called Pulstar in the 1970s.  A few decades later, it’s also an incredible looking 1995 shmup on the Neo Geo.

Here it Comes is a song by The Stone Roses.  The lyric “here it comes” features regularly in La Breeze which is a great track by Simian.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is driving me completely Around the Bend.  I just can’t take it anymore.

Of Montreal were Around the Way and Oasis are Round Are Way.

I am a Scientist was wrote by Guided by Voices and We are Scientists is a band.

Wings is famously one of Paul McCartney’s bands.  What may not be as famous is that it’s also a classic Amiga game.

“Tell me kid, have you ever danced with the devil by the pale moonlight?”

That’s a quote by Jack Napier in the 1989 Tim Burton Batman movie.  The Sounds enjoyed a Dance with the Devil.

Wailing Wall found themselves in a pretty Lame Situation.

The Twilight Sad slept in yet Another Bed.

“Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.”  Chairlift really Don’t Give a Damn what you think of their music.

Pulp learnt to use an art medium during Acrylic Afternoons.

Islands want the Same Thing as you.

Whatever you do, don’t visit the zoo owned by Big Sir as you’ll see a very Sad Elephant.

Band of Skulls are worth listening to, Honest.

You’ve gotta know your films for these next two...

Yellowcard have a song called Cut Me, Mick.  This is when Rocky is struggling to see during a brutal fight with Apollo, so he pleads Mickey (Burgess Meredith) to “Cut me, Mick?”

“Bitches Leave” is a quote by Clarence Boddicker, portrayed expertly by Kurtwood Smith in Robocop.  He’s hired to kill Bob Morton (Miguel Ferrer) by Dick Jones (Ronny Cox) and does so by leaving housewarming present – a grenade.

It’s also a song by Be Your Own Pet.

Are both in homage to respective films, or just pure coincidence?

Both theories seem a decent bet.

Any type of audio is always better when played in Stereo.  Pavement will appreciate this if you crank up the volume.

Delta Spirit will pour Salt in the Wound, Pendulum are rubbing Salt in the Wounds and Thirteen Senses have a Salt Wound Routine.

Tindersticks aren’t running, they’re Walking.

The Saturdays and James Morrison were going Up.  Anberlin and blink-182 went Down.

White Denim visited the clothes shop and bought a New Coat.

Groove Armada folded a Paper Romance, Lady Gaga arranged a Bad Romance and The Twilight Sad, The Rapture and Yeah Yeah Yeahs enjoyed a Modern Romance.

This is ridiculous but true.  Yeah Yeah Yeah is a song by The Sounds.

Possession is 9/10s of the law.  Thanks for clearing that up Brett Anderson.

Black Noise is a song by Panic Room and White Noise is both a Michael Keaton chiller and track by Gaz Coombes Presents.

Gorillaz had Demon Days, Kids in Glass Houses experienced Diamond Days and David Bowie is associated with the Diamond Dogs.

Most people have played the video game Super Monkey Ball, but if not, your aim is to guide a sphere to a goal over progressively difficult courses.

Think this is an original concept, think again.

Atari’s Marble Madness in 1984 started this all off with the aim of negotiating an object around a course littered with obstacles.

In 1985, Melbourne House released Gyroscope which is basically a clone of Marble Madness.  Spindizzy by Electric Dreams is another such type of game.

If I have Amnesia, how come I remember The Cult and Joy Division?

Like millions of others, Deep Purple have also played Solitaire.

This is just incredible, the defence goes walkies, the keeper does an impersonation of a penguin during take-off and GGGGGGGOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The scorer is mobbed by Super Sidekicks wannabes and the other team is flirting with defeat.

That’s half time of extra time.

Can the manager pick the other team up?  Can they respond and take us to penalties?

Swap discs to find out.
