Sharks - The De'fin'itive Conclusion

Expect a bit of everything guys.

L'Ultimo Squalo¹ aka The Last Shark, The Last Jaws and Great White - 1981

Unlike film, posters were good.

¹Released in Spain and Brazil as Tiburón 3 (Shark 3) and Tubarão IV (Shark IV) respectively.

Universal sued the producers of Enzo G. Castellari's work for plagiarising Jaws, as did Australian distributors for breaching copyright of Peter Benchley's novel.

Before it was pulled from American theatres, rubbish knock-off reportedly earned over $18m.

It was later released on video in Japan as Jaws Returns.

Cruel Jaws aka Jaws 5: Cruel Jaws - 1995

Bruno Mattei's direct-to-video effort was literally unbe-fucking-lievable.

Just when you though it was safe to go into the sea again!!!
And I thought it couldn't get any worse.

This time it's even more personal than the last time.
Seriously?

Gotta love how they added blood to Roger Kastel's poster.

Both are a mash up Jaws 3-D and The Revenge (less claret and explosion).

Not content with blatantly cloning scenes from Jaws and Jaws 2, footage of the entire franchise is used, together with Deep Blood and The Last Shark.

Oh, the main theme of Star Wars can be heard.

Just for shits and giggles, Samuel Lewis has mob connections, just like Mayor Vaughn in Benchley's novel.

Film was eventually released in the US on September 2020.

Ron and Valerie Taylor

Divers are probably best known for shooting the live shark sequences (assisted by Rodney Fox above water) in Jaws.

Years before...

1965 photo.
Shark Attack Pack² and Great White

Identical, even down to bather.

²Featuring the abominations Sharkenstein, Raiders of the Lost Shark and Shark Exorcist.

Another unrelated collection of same name contained 5-Headed Shark Attack, Planet of the Sharks and Empire of the Sharks.

Jaws 2
Prior to Brucette devouring Marge.
Coincidence?

Hook Jaw - issue 57 (16 April 1977)
To See the Stars: The Urban Adventures of Giuseppe Bergman - 1998

This entry of Milo Manara's comic series has Bergman run into a beautiful girl caught up in the stories behind a medley of classic paintings.

At one point.

WHAT THE FUCK?

1966 photo.
For fun.

Blue Water, White Death - 1971
Now shit kicks off.

1974 first edition
Tom Simmonds presumably had photo to hand.
Hook Jaw - issue 2 (21 February 1976)
Jaws Revenge!
1983 Spectrum game was unlicensed.
And.

Black Mountain - Wilderness Heart
Artwork is credited to keyboardist Jeremy Schmidt.

Sharkzilla³ vs Great White Shark Smile - Mike Parry

³2002 film Megalodon.

Red Water vs Air Jaws - Chris Fallows

Sand Sharks vs King of the Monsters 2 - Neo Geo

WHAT?

Jaws the Revenge vs The Shark Hunter⁴ - 1979

Artwork clearly lifts meat of Kastel's poster, but I'm suspicious of splash.

While feeding off the popularity of Jaws, treasure hunting yarn just involves sharks.

Maddened Attack

The big one.

Carl Roessler claims he captured image off the southern coast of Australia in 1994.
Faith No More - The Very Best Definitive Ultimate Greatest Hits Collection
Roessler is mentioned, making use authorised.
The same can't be said about these though.

I Walk the Line - Black Wave Rising!
Artwork - Antti Rönkkö
Early Man - Beware the Circling Fin (EP)
Artwork - Mike Conte
Covers and posters

Atomic Shark aka Saltwater
Jurassic Shark
Tubarŏes Assassinos (Raging Sharks)
Shark Attack
Shark Attack in the Mediterranean
Shark Kill
Terror Storm (original title Cyclone)
Some things can't be controlled.

Steve Jobs - 2015

Danny Boyle's biopic (ntbcw 2013 film Jobs), placed Michael Fassbender in the title role.

Photograph appears twice towards the end.

Jobs prepares to introduce the PowerBook G3 and iMac to employees on 6 May 1998.
During the presentation, he argues with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak (Seth Rogen).
According to the real Wozniak, neither scene happened.

In the film, image is supposed to symbolise Jobs's inner demons, his uncontrollable viciousness.

Apple did licence the photograph in 1998 to promote the G3, with Jobs saying product would 'eat' the competition (Pentium notebooks) for lunch.

Anyway, filmmakers did not get permission, or credit Roessler as being the owner.

He filed a lawsuit against Universal and Legendary Pictures for copyright infringement.

Is case still active?

Maybe.
