Summary
Tree's roommate Ryan wakes up in his car on Tuesday the 19th, (day after Tree's birthday), and after the Bayfield's dean Bronson shuts down quantum reactor, he's subsequently murdered by a baby mask.
Science project (dubbed Sissy), probably reffing Greek mythology character Sisyphus, is revealed to be responsible for creating loop.
Killer is actually 'another' Ryan, compelling original geek to panic and activate machine, causing Tree to relive her birthday all over again.
But this time, mummy bear's alive, Lori no longer wears murder knickers and Carter is dating bitchy Danielle.
Same day, different dimension folks.
Tree works with Ryan and co to figure out the correct algorithm so she can return to her own reality.
Mid-credits
Students are taken to a DARPA laboratory, where machine has been moved for further research.
Test subject is needed to be stuck inside another loop, and Tree has the perfect candidate.
Danielle gives vocal cords a workout...
Once is enough
First off, I do applaud ballsy approach of introducing sci-fi angle.
Shame shit didn't work.
Pseudo remake ignores gore (again) and relies way too much on comedy to save derivative skin.
Jump scares (of whatever kind), are stunningly predictable, and slo-mo scene of Tree and Carter snogging against backdrop of sparks flying is fucking cringing - and not in a good way.
Good doctor takes Lori's villainous place and dies when Tree's screwdriver hits bullseye.
Jokes hardly land, but one did tickle me.
Carter is slammed by Danielle as being dumber than a rock, but 'rocks don't even have brains'.
Well I found it funny.
Rothe's energy is ultimately the glue holding mediocrity together.
Jumping from plane in a bikini without parachute and gleefully diving into Biff's wood chipper (subtle Back to the Future ref) are suicide highlights.
Third is already in pipeline, but personally - I've got better things to do.
