Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom - The scoop and digest

James Wan returns as director to close the DCEU, which began in 2013 with Man of Steel.

Jason Momoa - Arthur Curry/Aquaman
Patrick Wilson - Orm Marius
Amber Heard - Mera
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II - David Kane/Black Manta
Randall Park - Stephen Shin
Dolph Lundgren - Nereus
Nicole Kidman - Atlanna

Summary

Arthur recalls how he became the King of Atlantis by stopping his half-brother Orm from attacking the surface world.

Meanwhile, David Kane searches for Atlantean artefacts with fanatical marine biologist Stephen Sim and finds a black trident, which possesses its owner with Kordax's evil spirit.

The good news is that he's given the necessary power to kill Arthur and avenge his father's death.

Five months later, Kane steals orichalcum from storage vaults, as specialised fuel is needed to power ancient machines.

The Council of Atlantis calls an emergency gathering because Kane's exploits have caused global temperatures to spike.

Arthur busts Orm out of prison to help him prevent Kane from destroying the world.

Mid-credits

Orm scoffs the burger Arthur told him about and adds a cockroach for extra crunch, which he clearly enjoys.

Born to drink Guinness

You'd think the best would be saved until last, but...

Waterlogged sequel takes on way too much and dumb action is plagued with terrible CG.

Scraping the soggy barrel (dries hands), Momoa and Wilson share some chemistry, but that's not saying much.

At some point, Arthur and Orm watch a plant eat a butterfly.

Said insect appears to be virtually identical to the one seen in Roger Dean painting Morning Dragon.

Well shit.
