The Beekeeper - The scoop and digest

David Ayer's latest action thriller (ntbcw unrelated 1986 Greek film of same name), is written and co-produced by genre veteran Kurt Wimmer.

Jason Statham - Adam Clay
Emma Raver-Lampman - Agent Verona Parker
Josh Hutcherson - Derek Danforth
Jeremy Irons - Wallace
Jemma Redgrave - Jessica Danforth
Minnie Driver - Director Howard

Summary

Adam Clay lives quietly as a beekeeper and rents a garage from schoolteacher Eloise.

One day, Eloise falls foul to a phishing scam and robbed of all her money.

Devastated, she commits suicide.

Seeking justice for Eloise, Clay contacts clandestine organisation the Beekeepers to locate those responsible.

After Clay blows up one of United Data Group's call centres, Danforth Enterprises send mercenaries to snuff out threat.

However, this bee stings and isn't interested in supplying honey.

Protect the hive

Ignoring nonsensical story, fight co-ordinator Jeremy Miranis (John Wick: Chapter 4) ensures close-quarters combat is solid and a glut of props allow Statham to impressively pollinate vengeance in a variety of exciting and imaginative ways.

Shit, there's even a decent end boss battle.

Are we bombarded with quips and references along the way?

You better fucking bee-lieve it.

Mickey Garnett is essentially The Wolf of Wall Street's Jordan Belfort and defective Queen offspring Derek snorts coke like Die Hard's Harry Ellis.

As a side note, Eloise was also a character in Spell (2020).

Guess who penned screenplay?

Yeah.
