The first fighting game to used digitised actors.

¹ntbcw similarly titled film Pit Fighter (2005).

While a major influence on Mortal Kombat, game rips off the mechanics of a lesser known scrap fest, before SNK released the Neo Geo.

Street Smart² (1989)
Ignoring hand-drawn sprites, the genesis of Fatal Fury (1991) allows you to move around whichever arena and opponents even flash red when nearly defeated.
