Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy - The scoop and digest

Hapless heroine's final ride is written by Helen Fielding, Dan Mazer and Abi Morgan and directed by Michael Morris.

Renée Zellweger - Bridget Jones
Chiwetel Ejiofor - Mr. Wallaker
Leo Woodall - Roxster
Jim Broadbent - Colin Jones
Gemma Jones - Pamela Jones
Colin Firth - Mark Darcy
Hugh Grant - Daniel Cleaver
Emma Thompson - Dr. Rawlings

Summary

Four years ago, Mark Darcy was killed by an explosion during a humanitarian mission in the Sudan.

Bridget's gynaecologist Dr. Rawlings tells tragic widow to forget about sex and go back to work.

When Bridget and her kids Billy and Mabel are stuck in a tree, 29-year-old park ranger Roxster helps them down and one thing leads to another.

But shit doesn't last.

Still, there's always science teacher and 'whistle obsessed fascist' Mr. Wallaker.

Adapt and survive

Swansong may be light on laughs, but brims with heart.

The second part focuses on grief, which brought genuine tears to my eyes.

While Grant's involvement is justified, Firth (as apparition/vision) and Broadbent on his deathbed felt like box ticking.

One year after Bridget and Mr. Wallaker (first name Scott) get together, a huge party on New Year's Eve ensures franchise bows out on a happy note.
