Summary
War veteran Will is desperate to raise $231,000 for his wife's experimental surgery.
But it's cool, because brother Danny, a life-long bank robber, has a $32m bank heist lined up.
Shit inevitably goes awry, and title is literally hijacked.
High-octane nonsense
Original was a swift 80 minutes, but this bastard lasts for over 2 hours, which is definitely way too long.
When premise actually gets going, we watch Heat and an extended sequence of The Rock (cheesily referenced in dialogue).
What made me chortle (for the wrong reasons), was paramedic Cam performing surgery on a patient in critical condition while moving at high speed.
Very realistic.
Chris Fedak's screenplay is unintentionally comedic, but at least an occasionally hysterical Gyllenhaal makes the best of childish ramblings.
Did I watch a film, or ride a rollercoaster?
Apparently both, as erratic cinematography brought unexpected nausea.
Danny threatening to kill Cam and himself, resulting in Will shooting sibling was so FUCKING STUPID.
Over the years, I've tolerated director.
But no longer.
