A Star Is Born - The scoop and digest

For those blissfully unaware, plot of 1937 original shares disturbing similarities with What Price Hollywood?

Anyway, Bradley Cooper stars, co-writes and directs third remake.

Summary

After hard-drinking rock and roller Jackson Maine (Cooper) watches struggling singer Ally (Lady Gaga) perform a belting rendition of La Vie En Rose, he takes her on tour to share the limelight.

They eventually tie the knot, but as her career takes off and his fades into obscurity, fallen superstar is left to fight a losing battle with drug and alcohol addiction.

Hits the high notes

I can't recommend this enough.

Brilliantly written (although dropping too many f-bombs) and completely believable, Cooper's directorial debut lives up to the hype.

Chemistry between Cooper and Gaga is molten hot.  So much so, I'm surprised cinema screen didn't spontaneously combust.

The gruffly spoken Cooper embraces tumultuous decline, but Gaga is the revelation.

I'm sure a lot of men and women will agree that leading lady is more attractive without the slap.

As Jackson's brother and manager Bobby, Sam Elliott is hugely impressive in support.

Those familiar with previous versions won't be surprised at how things pan out, but ending will still persuade the most stubborn lip to quiver.

Suicide is foreshadowed near beginning, as before Jackson comes across drag bar, camera briefly shows billboard displaying nooses.
