Bumblebee - The scoop and digest

Happy New Year!

Serving as both a spin-off and prequel to 2007 original, Jordan Knight (in his live-action debut), directs sixth in series.

Hailee Steinfield - Charlie
John Cena - Burns
Dylan O'Brien - Bumblebee
Angela Bassett - Shatter
Justin Theroux - Dropkick

Summary

On Cybertron, the Autobots are on the verge of being overwhelmed by the Decepticons.

Optimus Prime sends B-127 to Earth to build a base while he stays and wins the war.

In 1987, B-127 is discovered by Charlie in her Uncle's scrapyard, and after re-activating, relationship forms between robot and social outcast.

Noting he 'buzzes like a little bee' and because it suits his colouring, Charlie nicknames him 'Bumblebee'.

Having intercepted distress signal (accidentally sent by Charlie whilst pratting about with car radio), baddies Shatter and Dropkick convince military outfit Sector 7 that B-127 is a dangerous criminal.

The hunt for hostile invader begins.

Family fun

After five Michael Bay nightmares, franchise needed something new.

Okay, comparisons will inevitably be made to The Iron Giant, but nevertheless, relationship between human and machine is charming and occasionally amusing.

Action may be sparse, but at least we can understand what the fuck's going on.

Of course, that's not a dig at how Mr. Bay orchestrates mechanical mayhem.

Ahem.

Bumblebee and Dropkick have a great scrap, ending with goodie ripping enemy to shreds with chain.

Shatter is destroyed after Bumblebee floods area and boat rams nasty ass.

Featuring the likes of A-Ha, The Smiths, Simple Minds and Tears for Fears, soundtrack brims with nostalgia.

Door is left open for a spate of sequels, but as seventh has already been cancelled, they'll probably reboot entire thing.
