Insidious: The Red Door - The scoop and digest

In his feature debut, Patrick Wilson directs the final entry in main series, serving as a direct sequel to Chapter 2.

Ty Simpkins - Dalton
Patrick Wilson - Josh
Rose Byrne - Renai
Sinclair Daniel - Chris
Hiam Abbass - Professor Armagan

Summary

Nine years after his possession, Josh's memories of The Further have been repressed.

During Dalton's first lesson at a private school, art student ends up drawing a picture of titular door.

Father and son must confront their chilling past and go deeper into The Further than ever before.

Post-credits

Light above now sealed door begins to flicker.

Lost in memories

Holy shit guys.  Fucking boring or what?

Poorly executed jump scares tick every cliché in trope book.

Amidst the backstory of Josh's schizophrenic father Benjamin Burton (nicknamed Smash Face), virtually nothing happens until final 15 minutes.

Even climax with Lipstick Demon was terrible.

Scraping the barrel, Scott Teems' screenplay (who also co-wrote story with Leigh Whannell) isn't the worst and Dalton's roommate Chris provides some decent comic relief.

Not that I'm particularly bothered, but spin-off Thread: An Insidious Tale will probably be out next year.
