Video games ignoring films - Act II

Alien: Isolation obviously wasn't a film, but is officially canon and set between original and sequel.

Here's some goofs in regards to Alien.

Space Jockey area is huge compared to film.
Considering the Anesidora crew apparently visit the same place that Kane did, open egg that facehugger emerged from should remain, but is nowhere to be seen.
Also, the blue mist engulfs whole area.

Whereas in film during Kane's fateful discovery, mist hovers above.
DLC

Crew Expendable

Parker is clean shaven and headband is a darker shade of blue

Last Survivor

Ripley is singing 'Lucky Star' on the Nostromo.
But she only does this once aboard the Narcissus.
Finally, Jones doesn't feature whatsoever.

Alien³

'Alien' in C64's title screen looks okay, but glowing 'I' was only used in Aliens.
Observe.

Bullshit yes, but end screen (in virtually every version) has become strangely iconic.

As Ripley leaves Fury 161 in Mega Drive, Amiga etc, she turns back one last time
"IT IS DONE .. "
Their words, not mine.

Game Boy

Objective in overhead adventure is for Ripley to escape in the EEV.

The biggest problem is we're never told when items are useless.

And considering weapons and items have their own (and limited) inventory slots, that's pretty fucking important.

Layout is stupid and in the wrong order, Newt isn't 'dead' and where's Bishop?
Apart from that - great.

In full:

FIORINA 161
CLASS C PRISON UNIT

IRIS - 12037154

REPORT EEV UNIT 2650 CRASH

Portraits closely resemble live action counterparts, but dialogue is mostly made up.

Ripley and Andrews

Dillon and Bishop

What really boils blood is Game Over screen.

...This is Ripley, last surviving member of the Nostromo, signing off...
It should be:

"This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo, signing off."

Monologue is taken from Alien, so how did they FUCK that up?

Alien 3: The Gun

Two anonymous marines blast their way through Sega's fast-paced arcade rail shooter.

Title screen expertly captures poster, but film was released in 1992, not 1993.
There is so much bullshit, and this boss reeks of it.

Iron Tortoise
Tank?

A giant BASTARD tank?

After finishing the 'boss of the aliens', An Unidentified Man is pissed at player for not having the alien samples necessary to develop a bio-weapon.
He looks familiar.

Bishop II
The mind boggles.

SNES

Once again, 1993 is WRONG.
Attract sequence is nothing like poster and based on Alien.
But if you're a massive geek...

It's very similar to how official trailer ended.
Fantastic coincidence?

Who knows?

Intro

Shot of Ripley in hypersleep was never used.
Closing scene of Alien.
I'm confused.

Now shit gets lazy.

Facehugger lands on cryotube and presumably breaks snooze capsule.
But shortly after.

Not even a blemish.
I guess parasite used telekinesis to plant Queen.

(Chuckles).

Film made the effort.
Proof-reading problems.

Fiorina 'Fury' 161.
Outer Veil Mineral One Refinery
Double Y Chromosome
Work Correctional Facility
Maximum Security
Fiorina "Fury" 161
Outer-Veil Mineral Ore Refinery
Double Y Chromosome-Work Correctional Facility
Maximum Security
Hyper bitchy I know, but when something's right in front of you, it's not exactly difficult to copy.

Environments are right on the money, but not this one.

Secreted resin only featured in Aliens.
Drum roll please.

Pistons push random Queen to her death.
Bollocks.

The Queen Alien is finished.
There's only one alien left and it's growing inside me.
I'll never let the Company get their hands on it...
N E V E R
This is the only version to have Ripley descend into hot lead.

Kudos.

But could they have made poor cow any goofier?

Fright Night

Released only for Amiga and Atari ST, could Tom Holland's classic work as a video game?

Microdeal thought so.

Interestingly, we play charismatic villain.

Film was released in 1985, not 1988.
It's not rocket science.

Peter Mueller's iconic poster is cropped for box art.
I demand you note full moon.
Now feast your eyes on title screen.

Here comes the sun, little darling.
WH-WH-WHAT?

Movie characters are drafted in as enemies and/or potential victims.

Evil Ed (left) and Charley (right)

Along with Amy, Peter, Judy (Charley's mother) and oddly, prostitute Cheryl.

Billy Cole is a notable absentee though.

Goal of game is to survive a week and after each day, Jerry must take forty winks inside coffin, or he'll sizzle like a sausage.

Who the hell is this guy?
Pass.

And since when did vampires sleep upright?

Hey Jerry, do you think trend will catch on?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chill out mate, was only asking.

Jesus.  Some folk just can't a joke.

Die Hard

Aside from 'title placement', C64 and NES covers are identical.

What's missing?

Yeah, Bruce Willis's ugly mug.
Guess they didn't have likeness rights?

PC Engine took a different approach.
DOS was the same kinda thing as C64, but with 3D perspective.

If all goes well.

Good ending
Lovely.

But if Holly is shot.

Bad ending
Why is McClane now wearing an orange vest?

Also, what's with the scratches? Did he get attacked by a wild animal?

NES

What I like to call the 'double KO ending', Holly states the obvious.
"JOHN!!!"
You got Hans, but he got you too.
YOU LOSE. GAME OVER.
To be fair, proper ending with Powell shooting Karl is awesome.

But spoilt slightly.

I knew you could do it, Pardner!
YOU WIN! GAME OVER.
PC Engine

John wading through lake and torching people with flamethrower?

Must've missed that part.

Tony (left) and Karl (right)

Very good.  But I'm not sure that brother used extendable baton thing.

Port features a host of excellent intermission screens.

For example:

Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs...
Shame there's no digitised speech, or even dialogue.

Time for a real head scratcher.

End boss is FBI helicopter.
How do I know?

Cos of what happens next.

Partially animated screens are brilliant, but what were they thinking?

Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza

Okay, some liberties were taken, but for the most part, dialogue (uncensored) and action scenes in first-person shooter follow source material very closely.

Due to money and legal issues, the only member of original cast to lend voice was Reginald Vel Johnson.

Box art was inspired by McClane smashing through window.

Nakatomi's architect E.C. Chen becomes real.
He bites the dust when elevator cables give way.
Characters

First off, we never see McClane.

Takagi

Tony

Glasses?

Holly and Ellis

Coke-snorting businessman looks like a 70s porn star.

Karl

Gotta love cute ponytail.

Hans

Okay I suppose.

Theo

Hacker wasn't bald.

Worst of all.

Special Agent Johnson (left), Deputy Chief Dwayne T. Robertson (middle) and Agent Johnson (right)

What's the problem here do you think?

Yeah, Grand L. Bush is black.
HILARIOUS!!!

Miscellany

Most kick ass, with a few curious exceptions.

Theo waiting for vault's code

Powell's crash

Spiffing.

But our man walks out unharmed, when head should be bloody.

As Powell is black, WHY didn't they extend the same courtesy to Agent Johnson?

We'll never know, but it can't be race related.

Now I have a machine gun. Ho-Ho-Ho.

Tony's corpse without Christmas hat stands out like a sore thumb.

Karl's reaction to brother's death

Plant is thrown rather than table.

Whatever.

Rather predictably, scrap between McClane and Karl isn't played out.

As for how Hans is killed.

Articulate criminal genius is SNIPED.
Err.

To an extent, famous fall is impressive.

Karl's last stand

But check out Powell's firearm.

Beretta 92
He actually used:

Smith & Wesson Model 15
Come on, they don't even look alike.

Until next time.
