Scott Cooper adapts Nick Antosca's short story The Quiet Boy.
Keri Russell - Julia Meadows
Jesse Plemons - Paul Meadows
Jeremy T. Thomas - Lucas Weaver
Graham Greene - Warren Stokes
Scott Haze - Frank Weaver
Summary
Inside an abandoned mine, Frank Weaver and his son Aiden are attacked by an unseen creature.
Although both survive, their condition worsens. A few weeks later, Frank's son Lucas brings back roadkill for ravenous family to eat.
Yummy.
Schoolteacher Julia grows increasingly concerned over Lucas, whose odd behaviour includes drawing disturbing pictures and telling a story about cannibalism.
She suspects father is abusing him, but when mutilated bodies of humans and animals start popping up, all and sundry realise the legend of the wendigo could be real.
Pray it desires not You
Chilling and atmospheric, creature features are definitely back.
Julia and Paul's backstory is clichéd, but adds meat to human drama's bones.
Performances from Keri Russell and especially Jeremy T. Thomas are really impressive and visceral horror kicks off at just the right time.
We don't get a proper look at horny beast until the end, but wicked combination of practical effects and CG is definitely worth the wait.
Paul coughing up icky goo (inferring he's become wendigo's latest host), leaves door open for a sequel.
But as much as I enjoyed this - another would be completely unnecessary.
IMHO of course.
