Ready or Not's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett direct 'Scream 5'.
Kevin Williamson is now an executive producer and presumably why series veteran didn't pen screenplay. Instead, James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick shoulder responsibility.
Neve Campbell - Sidney
Courteney Cox - Gale
David Arquette - Dewey
Marley Skelton - Deputy Judy Hicks
Melissa Barrera - Sam Carpenter
Jenna Ortega - Tara Carpenter
Jack Quaid - Richie
Mikey Madison - Amber
Summary
10 years after the events of Scream 4, a new Ghostface begins terrorising Woodsboro.
Following an attack which leaves her sister Tara hospitalised, Sam (Billy Loomis's daughter) and love interest Richie track down a recluse Dewey, who reluctantly gives advice on how to avoid becoming a victim in Stab.
Sidney and Gale return to old stomping ground and won't rest until latest fly is permanently swatted.
Not my favourite scary movie
Youngsters, legacy characters not feeling entirely redundant and some brutal kills are positives, but overall - pretty boring.
Meta requel takes no risks and rehashes old ground in a very predictable way.
Okay, play it safe to a certain extent, but go further and create your own rules.
A lot has happened since 2011, allowing dialogue to reference It Follows, Hereditary and specifically The Babadook, but focus is centred around Stab, with obsessed fans Amber (Ghostface) and Richie (accomplice) pissed at Stab 8.
Guess what? They're making their own version.
(Rolls eyes).
Sam takes pills to prevent psychotic episodes but when meds don't work, she hallucinates Skeet Ulrich's de-aged ghost who offers guidance.
Fucking weird.
Before end credits roll, FOR WES is displayed.
Would the great man approve or scoff at generic approach?
We'll never know.
