Unhinged - The scoop and digest

Derrick Borte takes us on a killer ride.

Russell Crowe - The Man/Tom Cooper
Caren Pistorius - Rachel Hunter
Gabriel Bateman - Kyle Hunter
Jimmi Simpson - Andy
Austin P. McKenzie - Fred

Summary

Tom Cooper murders his ex-wife and boyfriend and torches their home for good measure.

En route to dropping off her son Kyle at school, single mother Rachel honks hard at somebody who doesn't budge at a green light.

One suspects she's had a touch of road rage.

He pulls up alongside and asks for an apology, but she refuses to comply.

Rachel has no idea what a bad day is.

She's gonna fucking learn.

Actions have consequences

This is essentially a 'mobile' version of Joel Schumacher's Falling Down (less the dry humour), also taking bites from The Hitcher, Joy Ride and Duel.

Premise is also disturbingly similar to crazy Dutch thriller Bumperkleef (Tailgate).

Pistorius is good value as tormented soul and although it's fair to say that a corpulent Crowe (sporting a Southern accent) is simply parodying himself, performance as deranged pill-popper can be pretty terrifying.

I'm just gutted that after murdering Rachel's divorce lawyer Andy at a diner, Maximus doesn't roar "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?"

Ha ha ha!

Brutal deaths (with no expense spared on gore), and some impressive car crash sequences ensure cat and mouse yarn is never boring.

Unfortunately, climax was very predictable.

Before it all kicks off, Rachel takes a pair of scissors, and 'eye' just knew object would be used to kill antagonist.

"Here's your fucking courtesy honk!"

(Sigh).

I suppose the overriding moral of situation is that shit could actually happen.

With that in mind, be careful out there.
