'Probably' everything that Street Fighter II ripped off

Prepare for shocks and surprises.

The World Warrior (1991)

Hard Times¹ (1975)

Known as The Street Fighter in Japan, background designers were instructed to blatantly copy two settings from Walter Hill's debut.

¹Originally called The Street Fighter, but when Sonny Chiba film of same name was released in 1974, producers reverted back to screenplay title.

Anyway.

Battle Harbour - USA

When asked about opening riff sounding remarkably similar to Cheap Trick's Mighty Wings, Yoko Shimomura said:

"I watched the movie [Top Gun] before I composed the song, so I can't deny I may have been inspired subconsciously. But I didn't go into it thinking, 'OK, I'm going to make this song sound like 'Mighty Wings'."

Yeah, you keep telling yourself that love.

Big Factory - U.S.S.R.

Bringing something else to the table.

Death Warrant (1990)
Louis Burke (Van Damme) goes against Patrick Kilpatrick's the Sandman.
So Capcom stole two sources for Zangief's stage?

Evidence suggests yes.

Specials and throws

Lightning Kick (Chun-Li) and Hundred Hand Slap (E. Honda)

Are basically.

Fist of the North Star
Kenshirō's signature move Hokuto Hyakuretsu Ken.
Also.

Sumo Headbutt vs Buchu - Yie Ar Kung-Fu

And there's more.

Somersault Throw vs The Street Fighter

Flash Kick vs Enter the Dragon

Hell Wheel vs The Way of the Dragon

Can't help but admire taste though.

Miscellany

Sparkle in eye - The New Challengers vs Ken Asuka - Karate Master

Ryu was based on protagonist, but shit is taken to extremes.

One of the primary inspirations for M. Bison/Vega was Yasunori Katō - Tokyo: The Last Megalopolis.

Easy to miss, but Shadaloo insignia (skull with a pair of wings) was first seen in the arcade flyer for Street Fighter II' Dash.

Oddly, five-pointed star remained for in-game portrait (also extending to Hyper Fighting).

But tact was changed in The New Challengers.

Check this out.

Cabal (1988)
Hmmm.

Okay guys, let's get WEIRD.

Akuma - Super Turbo vs Tokage - Budokan: The Martial Spirit - Amiga (1989)

PC and Mega Drive ports injected colour.
The C64 had two versions of Street Fighter (both released in 1988), each boasting a different art style.

UK - Tiertex
US - Pacific Dataworks Intl.
UK title screen is just text, but transatlantic cousin scares me.

Hyper Fighting (1992) vs US title screen

Pink and yellow colour scheme is IDENTICAL.

What... the... FUCK?

HKM (Human Killing Machine) was the unofficial home computer sequel to Street Fighter (and one the worst fighting games ever made).

Dee Jay² vs Kwon

Look alike don't they?

HA HA HA!

²Word on trousers was originally Mantis, but changed to Maximum because it still read properly when sprite was flipped.

Blanka

The World Warrior

Champion Edition/Hyper Fighting

Please note the exaggeration of eyeballs and tongue.

Meanwhile on Mars.

Total Recall
Cohaagen takes his last breath before suffocating.
That was your wife?

(Nods).

What a bitch.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and Resident Evil 3 - Goofs

Presenting my last escape.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

The final numbered entry on PS1 begins 24 hours before Resi 2.

September 28th.
Daylight...

The monsters have overtaken the city.

Somehow...
I'm still alive...

I appreciate the sun doesn't always shine during the day, but this is just taking the piss.
Files

Some are a contradiction in terms.

Mercenary's Diary vs Merc's Diary

Medical Instruction Manual vs Med. Instr. Manual

Mercenary's Pocketbook vs Merc's Pocketbook

Written Order to the Supervisors vs Written Order

And I don't wanna hear any bullshit excuses about 'space'.

Continuity

When compared to the 'futuristic' Resi 2.

RPD

Lampshades

Barriers

Once inside, certain doors are boarded up.

Nemesis smashes though window, but glass is already broken.

Elsewhere, near the cable car, rig is seen in the background (which didn't crash until the following day).

That's what happens when you reuse assets.

Miscellany

Now for a host of oddities.

STARS should be S.T.A.R.S.
Koi Japanes Food for Delivery
Coution
Big West Hotel Restourant
Shoues
Manager's Report
Before you begin your new position, please allow me to give you some advise.
The grammar police gave free advice, but translators didn't listen.

Exevir battery transforms into company's mysterious competitor Enevir when taken from the Mayor Warren statue.

Hmmm.

Sign's description reads "NO TRESPASSING."
On closer inspection.

AUTHORIZED PERSONS
(The rest is illegible).

A zombie hiding inside a car provides a jump scare when it breaks out.
Please observe door's position near gate.
When gameplay resumes.

It's moved.
WHAT?

October 1st.
Night...

I woke up to the sound of falling rain.

I can't believe that I'm still alive...

Final act takes place post-Resi 2 and begins with Carlos.

"Raccoon City Hospital" and Raccoon Hospital.
After fleeing building, it's chucking down during cut scene, but weather 'improves' when gameplay resumes.

Clock Tower

Antagonist is trying to break through the wall (which is currently undamaged).
But immediately after.

It's visibly cracked.
And.

Nemesis should ignore Carlos because he's programmed to destroy S.T.A.R.S., not U.B.C.S.
Bioweapon earlier attacked Mikhail in the cable car, but only because he was protecting Jill.

Back with lady pants.

"Alfred Cones"
"1923 - 1986"
Gravestone's inscription reads:

FATHER
Junior M Martin

Ending

Fire hydrant was spraying hard on 28th September, but three days later...

Guess water supply 'ran' out.

One more.

Schdule Manager Kotaro Nishio
(Sigh).

Resident Evil 3

Reimagining was an embarrassment.

Anyway.

Jill finds a handgun near a corpse.
But after camera pans back, she's wearing a gun belt.
You go girl.

Parking garage roof

Jill approaches rescue helicopter.
Which then goes kaboom for no FUCKING reason.
The resulting explosion throws her against 'Jack Baker's' car.
However.

Prior to cut scene, vehicle is nowhere to be seen.
Anachronisms

John Ralph's ID card expires on 31/12/1999.
Game is set in America, so date should be written as 12/31/1999.
Override key
Flash drives weren't invented until 1999 and not commercially available until 2000.
Miscellany

Whisky on the Rocks
Whisky
Whisky on the Rook (what?)
Whisky and Water
Whisky refers to Canadian, Scottish or Japanese grain spirits and more importantly, whiskey refers to grain spirits distilled in Ireland and the United States.

MGL stands for Multiple Grenade Launcher so we're carrying a Multiple Grenade Launcher Grenade Launcher.
Nemesis is good at killing everybody except Jill, in this case Tyrell.
Isaac Graves' diary
Umbrella owns this town. There was this guy they caught trying to smuggle out company secrets. They essentially fed him to one of the Betas. FED HIM. I saw the whole thing.
Betas can't gobble you up, but Gammas aren't so hampered.

Fucking puke-breathing, toad-faced motherfuckers!

After Jill acquires the vaccine, colour changes from pink to purple

Unfinished Activity Log
9/28
2000.
Got eyes on two S.T.A.R.S.: a male (infected) and female. Bioweapon is pursuing the female.
Shitstorm officially begins inside Jill's apartment at 8:07 p.m., making the above total bollocks.

In-game map

Raw and unedited.

Green herbs are represented by a first aid kit.
WTF?

Hand grenades are represented by a handgun.
Double WTF?

Amusingly.
Flash grenades are represented by flash grenades.
I have no words.

Carlos and Tyrell's search for Nathaniel Bard begins on:

September 29, 2:34 a.m. - R.P.D. West Gate

And ends:

4:43 a.m. S.T.A.R.S. Office

Then we flashback to Jill after cable car's derailment.

Several minutes earlier - Subway Tunnels

For some inexplicable reason, an explosion sets Nemesis on fire.

Can somebody please tell me what the FUCK is going on?
Don't ask me pal.

Bitch manages to scramble over a barrier into a nearby river (bizarrely causing mutation).

Jill contacts Carlos (who's still at the S.T.A.R.S. Office) and their conversation is played out.

Jill! Come in!
Boss fight begins when previous section ends, meaning it's 4:43 a.m.
Saint Michael's Clock Tower confirms time.
Back with Nicholai's pesky file.

9/29
0700. Metamorphosis in the bioweapon triggered by a hostile encounter with JV (video attached). JV has been infected and is non-responsive.
Collected samples per orders.
Metamorphosis had nothing to do with Jill and hostile encounter occurs after mutation.

Also, insipid boss battle apparently lasted for exactly 2h 17m.

BULLSHIT!

If we explore area before attempting to leave, an ice cream van can be found.

Menu boasts a variety of 'interesting' flavours.

Rum Rasin should be spelled Raisin.
Badam is almond, so Almond Almond.
Similarly, Anjeer is fig, so Fig Fig.
Jesus, Capcom really like repeating repeating stuff.

Roughly half a day later

If we believe what we're told, story picks up around 3:30 p.m.

Carlos finds Jill infected and discards his CQBR Assault Rifle.
When supercop is carried away, he doesn't retrieve weapon and it's vanished.
September 29, 9:20 p.m. - Spencer Memorial Hospital

Yep, he magically gets 'another' one.
So it took them 5h 50m to reach destination?

If only game was as epic.
