Yesterday - The scoop and digest

Fab Four inspired fantasy is written by Richard Curtis (who also co-wrote story with Jack Barth), and directed by Danny Boyle.

Himesh Patel - Jack Malik
Lily James - Ellie Appleton
Sophia Di Martino - Carol
Ellise Chappell - Lucy
Joel Fry - Rocky

Summary

Cycling home one night, wholesaler and struggling musician Jack Malik is hit by a bus, and following a mysterious incident dubbed the Blackout, wakes in alternative timeline where he's the only person who remembers the Beatles.

Our man uses this to his advantage and passes off timeless classics as his own.

Although Jack is happy to sup from the chalice of fame, guilt eats away.

Magically Frustrating Tour

Light-hearted rollercoaster (occasionally splashed with melancholy), is one enjoyable ride - but fascinating concept fails to utilise full potential.

Instead of having everybody adore Jack's songs, why not have some not, as that could've led to some interesting banter.

Likable leads ooze energy and support is impressively charismatic.

Even Ed Sheeran (as himself) was decent.

Can't believe I just said that...

With no Pepsi to guzzle, googling 'coke' returns Pablo Escobar.

Ha ha ha!

For 2 hours or so at least, cigarettes and Harry Potter also don't exist.

Personally, I see the latter as more hazardous to health.

I think decision to keep Robert Carlyle's uncredited role of John Lennon was because they were too frightened not to.

Scene screams cutting room floor.

As a random side note, this may be the first time cinema has reffed Neutral Milk Hotel.

Nice.
